Focus on Diabetic Foot
Guard Public Health Together
On May 18, 2025, the National Disability Assistance Day, a health lecture themed Focus on Diabetic Foot, Build a Solid Health Defense Line was held at the Senior Life Experience Center.
The event was co-sponsored by Wuhan Disabled Persons Rehabilitation Service Center and Wuchang District Disabled Persons' Federation, undertaken by the Intelligent Comprehensive Ability Assessment Center of the Senior Life Experience Center, and co-organized by Youfoot-Zhihui Assistive Devices.
It brought together experts from the Department of Endocrinology, Rehabilitation Medicine and Neurosurgery of Zhongnan Hospital, as well as rehabilitation engineering specialists from Zhihui Assistive Devices. Also in attendance were grassroots staff serving people with disabilities and residents affected by diabetic foot. Through multidisciplinary collaboration, participants discussed and exchanged solutions to problems related to diabetic foot.
The activities included expert popular science lectures, case analysis and free medical consultations. The event highlighted that prevention is more important than treatment for diabetic foot, and stressed the significance of improving people's quality of life.

01
Multi-party Collaboration to Fulfill the Health Mission

The foot assistive devices on site were truly impressive, including heel crack prevention socks, pressure-relief insoles, wormwood health shoes and plantar massage balls. Many people learned for the first time that diabetic foot protection covers a wide range of aspects. Thanks to the experts' explanations, participants gained a new understanding of the importance of early prevention of diabetic foot and the application of rehabilitation assistive devices.
Wang Juan, Director of Wuchang District Disabled Persons' Federation, stated that diabetic foot is one of the most severe complications of diabetes. It affects 15% of diabetic patients, and the amputation and disability rate caused by diabetic foot reaches 28.2%. The condition brings great suffering to patients and places a heavy burden on families and society.
This grim reality reminds us that prevention prevails over treatment, and collaboration is far better than working alone. We must break down disciplinary barriers, jointly tackle challenges, and build a solid line of defense for health and prevention for people with physical dysfunctions.

02 Target Key Issues and Define Objectives

Diabetic foot, one of the most severe complications of diabetes, seriously impairs patients' quality of life and increases social burdens. Fortunately, early prevention and standardized management can greatly reduce the risks of amputation and disability. Against this backdrop, this activity sets three core objectives:
Raise public awarenessPopularize knowledge about the hazards and prevention of diabetic foot, empowering patients to safeguard their own health and improve self-management capabilities.
Advance early screeningIdentify high-risk groups through professional free consultations and examinations, deliver timely interventions, and eliminate potential health risks at an early stage.
Facilitate multidisciplinary collaborationBuild a communication platform for medical staff, patients and professionals across disciplines to pool expertise and optimize the management model for diabetic foot.
03
Expert Knowledge, Light the Way to Health
At the event, Ms. Pan Xiaofei, General Manager of Youfoot-Zhihui Assistive Devices (MSc, BSc (Hons), registered podiatrist with the Health and Care Professions Council of the UK), delivered a sharing session titled Case Studies on the Application of Assistive Devices for Diabetic Foot, which was well received by the audience. During the free clinic, Ms. Pan and leaders from the Disabled Persons' Federation discussed tailored solutions for people in need.
In addition, the Youfoot team offered free foot scanning, plantar pressure testing, as well as plantar sensation and temperature sensation assessments. These services helped the public master effective methods for early detection of diabetic foot, enabling timely intervention instead of seeking medical help only when toes turn black.

This successful conclusion of the health education campaign on diabetic foot marks not only the dissemination of professional knowledge, but also the promotion of sound health concepts. It helps more people stay away from the threat of diabetic foot and embrace a healthy life.
Breaking the conventional single diagnosis and treatment model, this activity highlights multidisciplinary collaboration, the philosophy that prevention prevails over treatment, and biomechanical correction and intervention. Through interdisciplinary integration, we have built a full-life-cycle health defense line against diabetic foot for the public.
The National Disability Assistance Day is more than just a commemoration. It serves as an opportunity for the whole society to review disability support services and convey humanistic care. Teaming up with Wuchang District Disabled Persons' Federation, Youfoot-Zhihui Assistive Devices brought professional expertise into local communities to deliver services right to people’s doorsteps. We hereby call on all to take life education as a link, attach equal importance to prevention and treatment, leverage technological innovation, and pursue social inclusion.
